HMS would like to inform the community that services for longstanding educator and HMS School Board member Peggy Appleton, along with her husband Terry will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 10:30 am at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. HMS would like to thank all who have contacted us and shared great stories about their service to the students of Hobbs, and sympathy and prayers for their family and to our staff. Hobbs Municipal Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Shawn Hardison as the new Director of Safety & Security. With more than two decades of law enforcement and security experience, Hardison brings deep knowledge, local expertise, and a proven commitment to student safety to his new role. Hardison served the City of Hobbs for over 20 years as a sergeant with the Hobbs Police Department. His career included assignments as a detective, field training officer, school resource officer within Hobbs Municipal Schools, and a SWAT officer. His experience in both crisis response and proactive prevention uniquely equips him to lead safety initiatives across the district. After retiring from HPD, Hardison continued his service to the community as a Security Specialist with URENCO USA for the past three years, further enhancing his knowledge in facility protection, emergency preparedness, and federal compliance. “We are excited to welcome Mr. Hardison back to Hobbs Municipal Schools in this important leadership role,” said Superintendent Gene Strickland. “His years of service in Hobbs, both as a peace officer and school resource officer, give him a strong understanding of the needs and challenges our schools face. His commitment to student and staff safety is unwavering.” Assistant Superintendent for Operations Doug Young echoed the sentiment: “Shawn Hardison brings not only experience, but trust and familiarity within our community. His leadership will help ensure that our campuses remain secure, welcoming, and prepared to respond to any safety concern.” As Director of Safety & Security, Hardison will oversee district-wide safety planning, emergency procedures, security personnel, and coordination with local law enforcement agencies. He will also be instrumental in implementing ongoing training and proactive safety measures across all Hobbs campuses. “I am honored to take on this new role,” said Hardison. “I’ve spent most of my career working to protect the people of Hobbs. Returning to serve the schools—where the safety of our children is at paramount every day—is both a great responsibility and a personal mission."

Back to Where It All Began 💛🦅 On day two of the HMS tradition of senior walkthroughs, HHS seniors returned to the classrooms and hallways of Heizer Middle School, and Will Rogers, Murray, Edison, and Jefferson Elementary Schools—places where their stories first started. From crayons to cap and gown, it’s incredible to see how far they’ve come. Teachers who once tied shoes and taught ABCs now cheered on soon-to-be graduates headed into the next chapter of life. This week is more than a walk—it is a journey back through memories, milestones, and the mentors who helped shape our seniors. The future is calling, but this week we pause to remember where the dreams began.⭐🦅 #thehobbsway #thegoldstandard #sustainablehighperformance #studentcentered

From Little Eagles to Soaring Seniors! It was day one of a week of seniors traditionally walking the halls of the schools in the district. These HHS seniors walked the halls of Coronado, Taylor, Stone Elementary, and Houston Middle School one last time—not as students, but as role models. The same hallways where they once learned to read, tie their shoes, and dream big now echo with pride and purpose. Younger students lined the walls with admiration, reminding us all that every journey begins with small steps. To our seniors: your roots are here, but your wings will take you far. To our future graduates watching today: your time will come before you know it!🎓
